I did learn two more things today about Quicken (which I'm guessing most of you know).ġ. I may give Tiller another try once it improves its Excel spreadsheets (Tiller is mostly a Google Sheets product). It's less time-consuming to export the info I need from Quicken to an Excel spreadsheet and manually add to my retirement workbook. The answer was definitely yes, but a lot of work. Yeah, I tried Tiller because I wanted to see if I could tie it into my retirement Excel workbook.

Some look for an excuse to do it themselves. Some haven't put the time into learning what Quicken can do. Some people want something very customized.

I found no buggy transition to the subscription software when I did it last April as my Quicken stop functioning.

However, you can open Quicken, and update accounts one by one. So your statement is not correct, they did respond.Īs a Quicken user for 25 years or so, I'm very disappointed with this outage, and the fact that it's gone on for several days with no further updates. In the link you provided to the Quicken issue, there is a response from Quicken linking to an Alert they posted of the issue. I'm amazed there isn't a better off-line (non-cloud) option out there. Yes, it is a convenience and yes, it is a relatively low cost compared to my account balances-but "low cost compared to my account balances" is not how I make purchase decisions. But Quicken's new owners effectively tripled the price under the subscription method with no substantial improvements-and a very buggy transition to the subscription software. I have subscriptions with Microsoft and Adobe. Yes, I agree that software companies need to make money. Well, it's the increased cost, the consistently bad consumer reviews over the last couple years (e.g., look at the Amazon review page-sort by most recent-which I think gives a more accurate version of the reviews) and the recent outage with no response from Quicken. You can't seriously be rethinking going to the subscription model because of momentary bug experienced by some users. You misread/misunderstood this sentence - "I have no issue buying a yearly renewal and just did so for $34 a month or so back by finding a deal." It actually was for 14 months BTW. Amazon has it now for $39 for 14 months (Quicken Deluxe) +1 But I think the cost to you was $34 a year. It doesn't seem to bother anyone to pay for those programs. I pay more than that every year for Turbo Tax Deluxe. I have no issue buying a yearly renewal and just did so for $34 a month or so back by finding a deal. I'm sorry that you are irritated that they actually need to generate revenue to pay their employees and support the product.

I find great value in being able to automatically download transactions from over 20 accounts without any effort. I've been using Quicken for over 20 years and rarely encounter serious issues that aren't resolved quickly. =googlefinance() is an amazing thing for so many reasons. I can't comment on how that works these days. PS: I dropped managing my investments from Quicken a long time ago and moved to a 100% google sheets solution that suits my needs.

I am not saying as a fan-boy of Quicken, I am just realizing that it does appear that the subscription model has saved the product and the company by giving them a cash flow and need to keep the product current and viable making it a win for those old ducks like me that has created a life-time model for money management based around Quicken. I wish I could say that for some other things I pay for. Since I use it to manage and track all of my day to day spending, it provides invaluable service to me and I would probably pay even more than the normal subscription price. I think the rejuvenation of Quicken by the spin-off and return of old leadership has been very very good for the product.

I nearly dropped the product after a 20+ year run (I started in the windows 3.1 days) because it was in such horrible shape around 2015-16. I will say that the recent versions of Quicken (I am currently on 2020 version 23.17) and for about the last 12 months has been the most stable and functional (especially for online transaction support) I have seen in years.
